B2B research succeeds when the person, role and buying context all align with the question being asked. Broad job-title targeting is rarely enough.
Start with the decision, not the title
A senior title can mean different things across industries and company sizes. Screening should establish the respondent's actual involvement: whether they recommend, evaluate, authorize, use or influence the relevant product or service.
This also makes questionnaires more relevant. A technical evaluator and a budget owner may both matter, but they should not automatically receive identical language or tasks.
Layer profile and survey evidence
Professional profile data is strongest when combined with study-specific validation. Company size, industry, department, seniority and responsibilities should form a coherent picture rather than operate as isolated gates.
- Use natural-language role questions
- Check consistency between profile and screening answers
- Keep qualification criteria explainable
- Plan for realistic incidence before launch
Respect scarce professional attention
Decision-makers have limited time. Concise mobile-compatible surveys, credible invitations and transparent expectations improve both participation and the quality of the thinking respondents bring to the study.
